Friday Night

Distinguished Memorial Competitors,

As part of the ongoing commitment to improve The Memorial, I was appointed by the brain trust that runs this show to come up with an evening of entertainment on Friday night which will hopefully get everyone fired up and ready for The Memorial (if you actually need something to fire you up..).  What we decided on was a Beer Olympics with the previous year’s teams paired up with some substitutions for those departed with our newest competitors, who will be at the mercy of distinguished Memorial veteran and hazing extraordinaire, Jon Cobb.

The Olympics, which will be followed by the most anticipated moment of the weekend the determination of the teams, will consist of 7 or 8 events depending on if the venue has suitable accommodations for one of the events.  The events will be:

1)      Beirut
2)      Flip Cup
3)      Quarter’s Race
4)      Depth Charge
5)      Long Pour
6)      Monkey Chug (dependant on the venue)
7)      Wiffle Beer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJT2TEQOiZI)
8)      King of the Chug

The scoring system and rules will be very simple and the drinking will be excessive, just how we like it.  Since I heard grumblings about the teams, here are the teams:

Threat Level Midnight – Bluebeard and Myself
Little Giants – Craig and the as yet to be nicknamed, Tyler Stegeman
The Kings of Prussia – The King and the prodigal son, Big SweaTY
Uncle Jerry’s Hospitality – Ya Good?  Rick Douglas and Jon "The Jig" Cobb
Expressway to Your Heart – Legs and Joe Hite
And a Greenhorn team to replace “Sweep the Leg” – Grant and the BIZ

So there you have it, hopefully we can kick things off soon after everyone arrives and since some events are shorter than others we should have plenty of time to grill and humiliate the greenhorns.

See ya soon!

31 Days Out; Late Breaking News!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caught up in the delirium of the Penguins 3-1 victory on Tuesday night to push the Flyers to the brink of elimination, Ricky "Tsunami" texted me the following exciting news: "My plan was to wait until 31 days out. It's my lucky number!!!! Coincidence? Alert the blog! Rick is BACK!!!!!!!"

He followed that up by saying, "I live my life in the eye of the media. What would Vinny Chase do." When I asked him if he also lives his life a quarter mile at a time he simply replied "I apprenticed under Vin Diesel for a semester..."

2 different Vins; same 2 Sweet dudes.

So, this is huge news. We thought that we might be without Ricky. And while this is not a binding commitment, The Tsunami's word is like Cushman's dad in Jerry Maguire - "stronger than oak!"

A special tip of the cap goes to lead recruiter on this special Memorial athlete: El Jiggerino, Jon Cobb. Entrusted with bagging his first recruit as a "Lead Recruiter" Jigs did not fail to deliver. Jigs did a knock up job of planting seeds in Ricky's mind that lead to some sleepless nights and nightmares where Rick was alone at the Red Oak Chalet while the rest of us competed in Westmoreland County. Jigs set the table, I cooked the meal and Ricky gorged himself on a meal consisting of Busch Light, 13 events, 12 competitors and 1 Refereezy!!!

Score 1 for the Memorial. Score 1 for the Pens. And score 1 for Uncle Jerry and all that hospitality that he is known for!!!! Welcome home, Rip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deadline Day Approaches....

My mailbox remains alarmingly empty. Looks like I will have to take it upon myself to break up Emy's wedding in order to find a Plundo who wants to compete in 2009.
